Why You Should Have a Budget

If you have bad credit chances are your goal is to improve upon it. If this is the case, consider creating a budget. A budget is a helpful tool, if you are trying to earmark funds to pay off old debts.

A good budget takes a bit of time to prepare. Don’t expect to put one together in 5 or 10 minutes, it just doesn’t work that way.

Before you actually create a budget you should itemize your expenses, for a seven-day period. Write down every purchase, even if it’s only a pack of gum. This will give you an idea of where you can cut costs.

Get together all of your bills both monthly and those that are outstanding. Make a list of all of your living expenses. Include items like mortgage or rent, utilities, auto expenses, food, etc.

Once you have budgeted in all of your living expenses, you will have a better idea of your surplus income. (Hopefully, you will have at least a small amount to work with.) Take the money and begin to pay off your old debts.

It won’t happen overnight, but if you stick to your budget, you will eventually shrink downand even pay off your old debts. Doing so will put you on the road to better credit.
