What is a Good Credit Score?

When it comes to credit scores, higher is better. It is very difficult to be issued any type of credit without a good credit score. The question is; what numbers constitute a good credit score?

If you currently have poor credit, it’s not the end of the world. There are things you can do to improve it. Knowing what number range, to strive for, will help you advance down the road to better credit.

Your credit score can range anywhere from 350 to 850, with 850 being the maximum credit score available.

Individuals who maintain credit scores of 680 to 699 can consider themselves in the good category. (Anything above 700 is considered very good to excellent.)

Interest rates are much less when you have a good credit score. If you are trying to make a major purchase, of any kind, it would behoove you to wait until you can raise your credit score to at least 620, which is the prime-rate cut off.

Anyone with a credit score of less than 620 and expect to pay very high interest, on any type of credit.

By paying off old debts, you will eventually raise your credit score. It won’t happen overnight, but what hard work you can eventually regain a good credit standing.
