Should You Apply for New Credit
If your credit isn’t all that it should be, it is still possible to apply for a new credit card. Many financial institutions are in business, to help those with fair credit get back on the right track.
Typically, these are secured credit cards or credit cards with very low limits. When you are trying to rebuild your credit, it is wise to start out slow. So, these lower limits are really your friend. Why? Simply put, you won’t be tempted to go out and purchase a new computer or other high end item, because the funds just aren’t there.
This type of credit card will carry a high interest rate. As long as you don’t go over your limit and make your payments on time, you should have little to worry about. You should try to make double or triple payments, if at all possible. This will substantially lower the interest you will pay, in the long run.
When you are ready to start rebuilding your credit, it is recommended that you ‘shop around’ for the best interest rate and fee structure. Even though you will be applying for a high risk credit card, obviously you want to find the best deal.
