How Your Credit Score Affects You
If you have bad credit, it’s never too late to try to improve your credit score. This improvement won’t occur overnight, but even so it is important to do all that you can to raise your numbers.
Why is it so important to make these improvements? You may or may not be aware that your credit score affects more than just your ability to get a credit card or loan. It can make a difference in regard to other areas of your life, as well.
Employers and landlords often check the credit score of potential employers and tenants. You may be a perfect fit for a job or rental property, but without an adequate credit score the chance of being chosen is very slim.
Even your ability to obtain any type of insurance is at risk when you have a low credit score. Insurance companies willing to issue policies will base your insurance premium rate on your credit history. This type of insurance is referred to as a high risk policy.
The good news is that many states are starting to pass laws restricting this type of practice… at least in regard to obtaining insurance at the same rate as those with good credit.
